According to the CDC – “Nearly 1 in 10 women in the • United States (9.4%) has been raped by an intimate partner in her lifetime, and an estimated 16.9% of women and 8.0% of men have experienced sexual violence other than rape by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime.”



The troubling part about these statistics is they have not gotten better over time and many of the abusers/predators are repeat offenders.


According to the (DOJ) Department of Justice – “Data from the last National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey indicate that 41% of women and 26% of men stated that they had experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime and experienced an intimate partner violence-related impact.”



As we see the common denominator is “intimate partner”, this includes but not limited to spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, part-time lover…


It is the ones closest to us that tend to do the most harm. Why is that? Is it because we are literally the closest person to them so when they are frustrated, stressed out, or just a volatile person they don’t have to go far to release their tension….


They say, we hurt the ones we “love”, but is that love? Is that “oh I’m just a passionate person”, is that any level of care or just excuses?


The more chilling part is, it doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman, rich, poor, young, old, black, white, grey -- This is a universal issue and one that most people, even in today’s climate still cannot or will not talk about.


Can you image, if these are the numbers of those who actually reported their assault – how many more go unreported…
